Howard League for Penal Reform Student Society (Bristol)

Howard League for Penal Reform Student Society (Bristol)The Howard League for Penal Reform is the oldest penal reform charity in the UK. It was established in 1866 and is named after John Howard, one of the first prison reformers. Among its many achievements, the Howard League was one of the key campaigners for the abolition of capital punishment in the UK. We are the student society for the University of Bristol and we aim to raise awareness about the problems with the criminal justice system in the UK and to raise money for the charity. The Howard League has three core aims/beliefs: 1. to create a safer society with fewer victims of crime 2. offenders should make amends for the wrongs they have caused and become reformed individuals. 3. community service is more likely to make people take responsibility for their actions than a prison sentence and has a better rate of reform. As a student group we aim to raise awareness, fundraise for the charity and campaign. Of course we will also host lots of socials with plenty of alcohol!
